Protest & Paradox

In this collaborative series, Glasgow based artist Sean Merrin uses the medium of self-portraiture to explore the internal friction of modern discourse. By simmilarly portraying two opposing ideological figures, the artist reveals a startling irony: though the costumes and slogans change, the underlying human emotions—fear, hope, and the desire for agency—remain identical.

My role as the photographer was to capture the visual symmetry between these 'enemies.' Through light and composition, we aimed to strip away the performance of division, inviting the viewer to see that even our most polarized selves are built from the same common experiences and values. It is a study of conflict, not as an external event, but as a shared internal landscape.
